Synopsis/Summary:
A net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. Mortmain plans to use his Infernal Devices, an army of pitiless automatons, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan: he needs Tessa Gray.
Charlotte Branwell, head of the London Institute, is desperate to find Mortmain before he strikes. But when Mortmain abducts Tessa, the boys who lay equal claim to her heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, Will is as much in love with her as ever.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
As expected, my review on the last book on the Infernal Devices saga has come! And as every creation from Cassandra, it was bind-blowing. As the book begins you will find that a few weeks had passed since the previous one. The Magister is about to complete his master plan but before doing so he has to seek his last and most precious item: Tessa. Will and Jem, as well as everyone at the Insitute, will fight and give everything in their power to save her, but Tessa will find that the only one who can free her from the Magister’s evil intentions is herself. Get prepared for this magnificent ending that will smash your heart and devour your soul.
While reading Clockwork Princess you will find that a lot is happening, all those cliffhangers in Clockwork Prince will be properly developed and sealed in this continuation. As I read more and more I found my eyes popping out at every point in the plot. With Will’s curse, Jem’s condition getting worse, and the danger that surrounds the streets of London you will discover that your heart can not brace all at once and you will probably want to cry, scream, or some other way of ejecting everything you are not capable of bearing. Feel free to choose :) (btw I chose to scream). Cassandra adds magic to this book. I was able to live inside the story, I was part of it and I want you to be part too. Sense the fear on the character’s mind, and the love they take as burdens in their chest. Each character will have its own distinctive traits where you, as the reader, learn to relish their virtues and love even more their flaws.
You will experience more about the new relations established in the course of this novel and the previous. Sophie and Gideon, Cecily and Gabriel, Henry and Charlotte, I was delighted and surprised by their specific scenes, in where they were the center, even if it was during five pages, those pages melted my heart. Not only that, but you are able to see their progress as individuals where Cassandra paints them as functional packs of flesh and blood.
The world-building may seem the same on the Shadowhunter Chronicles but in each series, you find something that differs them from the rest. What this one has, in particular, is London during the year 1878, Clare did a lot of research in order to weave what was London’s past into her book. The buildings, the streets, the clothes all release the same energy that makes us tremble and desire to learn more about London’s history. You feel the antiquity between each line and dialogue. One thing I idolize in Cassie Clare is her ability to create rich and poetic prose, the kind you will only find in the classics of old but makes me feel superior for reading it.
Before I end up my review I will like to say one last thing: If you still believe, after reading two or the three books in the series, that Tessa is the one in the middle you are so very wrong. Jem is the center of the relationship by clear motives that I will not say because I don’t want to spoil for those people who did not finish the saga. Now please do me the favor to read this book so you can agree with me on this, thank you very much :) GOO!
